Weather Station "Pepe"

Officially named for Pepe, the best friend of the amazing volunteer, Rebekah.

Her little pup brought a huge boost to morale during the build. Jackson approved of this nomenclature, giving it four paws and a tail wag.

Directors

CEO and Founder

Travis Dean:
Founder Biography

Travis Dean is CEO and Founder of Jackson Earth Restoration & Research Center Corp. A graduate of Ashford University with degrees in Anthropology and History, Dean applies the scientific method to ecological restoration, disaster modeling, and climate resilience.

For over two decades, he has engineered LEO satellite systems and built predictive models for ground-zero events, supporting global first responders with data-driven precision. His work bridges technical infrastructure and environmental stewardship, where every protocol is a vessel of care.

The nonprofit’s name honors his K9 companion, who enjoys long walks off-leash and snacks, even when he shouldn't. Dean leads with clarity, compassion, and a deep commitment to protecting life, human, animal, and planetary, for generations to come.

Elizabeth Fleming:
Board Chair Biography

Elizabeth Fleming is the Board Chair for Jackson Earth Restoration & Research Center Corp. A graduate of Flagler College, she is an accomplished helicopter pilot known by her call sign “Bird” and a fierce protector of wildlife and habitats. Her commitment to the planet is personal; she is a vegetarian, a lifelong environmental advocate, and a bold adventurer who enjoys skydiving and bungee jumping.

With experience in private investigation teams and a sharp eye for detail, she brings courage, clarity, and ecological insight into her role on the Board of Directors, helping guide the sanctuary’s mission of remembrance, restoration, and resilience.

Jessica Bernier:
Treasurer Biography

Jessica serves as Treasurer.  Jessica has more than a decade of experience in nonprofit accounting, operations, and board governance. She holds an MBA and a master’s degree in accounting, along with a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and a minor in Psychology. This blend of education and experience gives her both an analytical mindset and a deep understanding of people and how organizations function.

In her professional work, Jessica partners with nonprofits to build strong financial and operational foundations. She specializes in accounting, fraud detection and prevention, and financial cleanup—helping organizations overcome challenges with transparency and confidence. Her service on multiple nonprofit boards has deepened her appreciation for the balance between mission, compliance, and long-term impact.

Helping people is at the heart of everything Jessica does. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and three children, and enjoys woodworking with her husband, creating things by hand, and spending time outdoors. She loves bird watching, photography, and capturing the beauty of the sky and the natural world around her.

Tiffany Goddard:
Secretary Biography

Tiffany Goddard serves as Director and Secretary for Jackson Earth Restoration & Research Center, bringing clarity, integrity, and a touch of mischief to every meeting. With a degree in business and a gift for organization, Tiffany keeps the sanctuary’s operations grounded, even when the terrain is steep and the paperwork steeper.

She’s deeply trusted by her peers, not just for her precision, but for her unwavering commitment to doing what’s right, even when it’s hard. Tiffany faces life’s challenges with grit, grace, and a determination to stay on the right side of history.

Outside the boardroom, Tiffany is an avid swimmer, a talented artist, and one of the funniest people you’ll ever meet. Her laughter is as restorative as her spreadsheets, and her creativity flows from watercolor to governance with equal brilliance.

Tiffany’s presence reminds us that stewardship isn’t just about structure, it’s about soul.

Shannon S. Bistline

 Director

Shannon S. Bistline is the Senior Field Contracting Officer at Coast Guard Base Charleston, leading a mixed team of civilians and active‑duty pros who keep procurement running smoothly from Myrtle Beach to Daytona. In 2024, his shop cranked out 84 contracts worth $2.8 million, proof that he can juggle FAR rules, construction projects, and the occasional procurement fire drill without breaking stride. He earned his FAC‑C (Professional) in 2023.

A Navy veteran (1994–2014), Shannon served as a Yeoman in Guantanamo Bay and NAS Jacksonville before moving into civilian contracting roles. He later returned to federal service as Lead Logistician for NIWC Atlantic’s Polar Program, yes, the Antarctica one, handling supply chains in a place where “frozen” is the default setting.

Originally from Monroeville, Ohio, he holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Off duty, he’s a Shodan in Judo and Traditional Jujitsu and teaches at The Citadel, proving he can throw both contracts and people. He lives in Ladson, SC, with his wife, Lori, and their children, Kayla and Draven—his proudest accomplishment by far.

Nicole Bartlett

Director

Nicole Bartlett is a manatee‑focused researcher at CMA Research Institute, where she tracks tagged animals, conducts photo ID, and conducts behavioral observations from South Florida to South Carolina.

Nicole's research includes doing surveys, eventually adding manatee captures, rescues, vegetation surveys, temperature monitoring, animal verification, and data entry.

Originally from Arkansas, she met her first manatee in Mosquito Lagoon and has been hooked ever since.  She’s currently finishing her master’s degree while juggling fieldwork, research, and the occasional boat adventure.

In her free time, she does jigsaw puzzles, rides motorcycles, and caters to the daily demands of her cats and two dogs—Dash and Pete—who are fully convinced she works for them and proudly consider themselves superfans of Jackson Earth.

Kristie Burton

Director

Kristie Burton worked in Quality Systems with a focus on continuous improvement in Medtronic’s Research and Development division. Before that, she spent time in Los Angeles as a film editor, because, of course, she is talented.  When things get complicated, the universal response tends to be, “Where’s Kristie?”

She lived many years in Los Angeles but still managed to travel the world while raising her son, Noah, proving she can juggle parenting, passports, and airport coffee with professional‑grade precision. Along the way, she collected an impressive range of skills, including blacksmithing. Yes...she can troubleshoot a quality system, edit a film, and forge metal; a renaissance woman with a hammer and a stellar sense of humor.

Kristie is also an art lover with an encyclopedic knowledge of musical artists. If you need a playlist, a deep cut, or a “wait, who is that?” answered, she’s your gal.

At home, she is lovingly ruled by her two dogs, Biscuit and Birdy, who govern the household with iron paws and allow her to live there in exchange for snacks, affection, and unwavering loyalty.
